What value is there in art? What is the role of an artist in the church? These questions have often occupied my mind and perhaps this article by Dayton Castleman provides a healthy perspective of the value of the artist and his/her work. When I read this article I mostly thought about worship leading in small churches and how it often isn't a financial option to compensate an artist for his/her work. However, I believe that Dayton's strikes a good note when he says:
"When we give of ourselves out of the surplus that has been given to us, it beautifully echoes the sacrificial generosity that has been shown to us by our God in the incarnation of Jesus Christ."
