On this blog I seldom write directly about things that are happening to me.  I first started it as a means to update my friends and family about my travels in Europe.  Although I have adapted the blog to feature more than just travel, it has come again to a time where I find myself away from the comfortable surroundings of Saskatchewan.  This time I have ventured across the Pacific Ocean to Honk Kong as part of a team teaching English with the CYEC summer English camp.  Initially I was a little unsettled at the thought of traveling to a country to take part in a kind of work that I have little training in.

Despite the uncertainty things have gone extremely well.  We were helped along by our TA's as soon as we left the airport to navigate our way to our Hostel at the City University of Hong Kong and to experience the finest of Hong Kong cuisine.  All in all, it has made for a very comfortable trip.  My impression of the city so far has been one of friendliness.  It is a remarkable that seven million people exist in this city together, sharing its small spaces, busy malls, and overcrowded subways.  I think the density necessitates a spirit of cooperation and friendship.  With 6480 people per square kilometer, there is perhaps little room for frequent disagreements and stark individualism.
