During this lenten season, this painting of Christ in the wilderness by Ivan Kramskoy has been on my mind. It is a wonderful depiction of Jesus fasting for forty days and forty nights. Following his fast, according to Matthew 4, he was tempted by the devil. This painting is a reminder of the what lent is meant to symbolize: Like the 40 days of Christ's fast, the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter is when Christians live like Christ and remember his journey to the Cross.
